1979 Johnny Bench Game Used Bat with Letter of Provenance from Family Member, PSA/DNA GU 8.5. The gold standard for baseball catchers of any era, Johnny Bench redefined how to play the position by the time he was twenty. Even now, long after his playing days have past, and his ten Gold Gloves, two MVP's and two World Series championships have been committed to memory, Bench still matters.

The Hall of Famer used this bat during his All-Star season of 1979, when he tallied twenty-two home runs, eighty RBI and a .276 batting average. Measuring 34.25" long and weighing 32.1 ounces, this H&B K55 model is uncracked and displays a flame wood finish. This exemplar shows wondrous, heavy game wear with hit marks, transfer marks, rack marks, cleat marks, and heavy pine tar application to the handle which is consistent with documented Johnny Bench game used bats. Bench's identifying #5 appears on the knob as part of a "5/9" black marker notation. Bat expert John Taube has noted in his PSA/DNA assessment of the piece that the unusual knob notation has significance to Bench and does not apply to any other player using his game bat. Letter of provenance from Johnny Bench's father-in-law/personal assistant. LOA from PSA/DNA, GU 8.5.
