    Description

1978 Pete Rose Game Used Bat Attributed to the End of His 44 Game Hit Streak, PSA/DNA GU 10.
Pete Rose had the sporting world on the edge of its collective seat when he made a run at Joe DiMaggio's hit streak in 1978. Who would have thought that a two-hit performance on June 14 would start the closest competition to Joltin' Joe's record? On August 1, Rose took the collar against the Braves. This Louisville Slugger model R195 bat (35" and 32.8 ounces) was secured when Rose's hit streak came to an end.

Ball marks and stitch impressions still emerge from the right and left barrel. Cleat marks and a light coat of pine tar add aura to the uncracked stick. The removal of finish on the left and right barrel, a unique Rose trait, is also evident. Rose signed the barrel "To Dana Good Luck Always" in thick black marker. "8-1-78 bat used during 44 game hitting streak ended Atlanta, Georgia" is written in an unknown hand. "14 g" and four dots are written on the knob.

We have been informed that the bat did indeed originate from the Atlanta area. This fine lumber (labeling period 1977-79) shows great use--maybe an extra ball mark or two could have meant DiMaggio's streak would have been in serious peril. LOA from PSA/DNA, GU 10. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
