    Description

1973-75 Harmon Killebrew Game Used Bat Attributed to Career Home Run #551, PSA/DNA GU 9.5.
His "Killer" moniker was inspired by his surname and validated by his thunderous home run clouts, but the Hall of Famer's gentle nature supplied the term with a hint of irony. A consummate sportsman on the field remembered for complimenting umpires even when they ruled against him, Killebrew converted to Mormonism during his career, abstaining from alcohol and tobacco. When asked about his hobbies in a sportswriter's interview, Killebrew simply replied, "Just washing dishes, I guess."
He'd send 573 baseballs into the cheap seats during his twenty-two seasons of Major League service, and this signature model Hillerich & Bradsby S207 bears a faded vintage ink inscription suggesting it was responsible for one of his last, reading, "#551 off David Clyde 5-24-74." The Twins would crush the visiting Texas Rangers that day in a nine-to-nothing shutout.

The text is in an unknown hand, but consistent with other Killebrew home run bat notations from that era. The bat exhibits heavy game use with multiple ball marks. stitch impressions, cleat divots, green and blue rack streaks, and heavy pine tar on the cracked handle. Number "3" appears in vintage marker on the knob. Length is thirty-five inches (35"), weight thirty-one ounces (31.1 oz.). LOA from PSA/DNA, GU 9.5.
