Description
1972 Pete Rose World Series Game Used Bat, PSA/DNA GU 8. After dropping three of the first four Fall Classic contests against the Mustache Gang of the Oakland Athletics, Rose and his early prototype of the Big Red Machine came storming back to win the next two and force a decisive Game Seven. Down a run in the bottom of the ninth inning, Pete Rose came to the plate with a man on first and two outs, one swing away from a World Championship walk-off blast, but his long fly ball off Hall of Fame reliever Rollie Fingers petered out in the left-center gap and was gloved by Joe Rudi for the final out.Presented is one of two signature model Hillerich & Bradsby S222's issued to Rose for use in the 1972 World Series, quite possibly the one that came a hair's breadth from being one of the most historic bats in the hobby. The Hit King's rare lumber matches factory ordering records at thirty-five inches and thirty-three and a half ounces and exhibits moderate use with ball marks and stitch impressions on both sides of barrel, appropriate for Rose's switch-hitting style. Cleat divots and red rack streaks likewise appear, as does a light coating of pine tar at the handle. A huge black sharpie signature on the barrel rates 9+/10. LOA from PSA/DNA, GU 8. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication.
