1971-72 Roberto Clemente Game Used Bat, PSA/DNA GU 8.5. Taking a cue from Teddy Roosevelt, this Puerto Rican legend spoke softly and carried a big stick, thirty-six and a half inches, to be precise. This massive signature model Hillerich & Bradsby U1 tips the scales at just under thirty-five ounces, and with that heft and the unique knob style, you could pick this out as a Clemente gamer blindfolded. The bat is uncracked and displays "excellent use," according to expert John Taube, who notes ball marks, stitch impressions, bat rack streaks and light scoring at left barrel. Mounting holes at each end have been patched. Even the handwritten number "21" in marker on the knob has been style-matched by Taube to other known Clemente gamers, these various facts inspiring the impressive GU 8.5 rating. A marvelous representation from the closing seasons of one of the all-time greats, in more ways than one. LOA from PSA/DNA, GU 8.5.
