    Description

    His last All-Star season!

1969 Ernie Banks Game Used & Signed Bat, PSA/DNA GU 9. Few players in Major League history brought such joy to their chosen profession as did this beloved Windy City infielder, fondly remembered for his catchphrase, "It's a beautiful day for a ballgame...Let's play two!" His number "14" jersey stands as the first ever retired by the Chicago Cubs franchise, and we find that number written in marker on the knob and lower barrel along with the bat's length in inches (35), the coveted "Yosh marks" applied by long-time Cubs clubhouse manager Yosh Kawano. Educated collectors understand these notations to be the ultimate hallmark of authenticity for the team.

The signature model S2 weighs thirty ounces (29.8 oz.), a format shipped to Banks between 1965 and 1969, but we'll take Ernie's word that it dates to the last year of that range as he asserts in his 9/10 black sharpie inscription. This would prove to be Banks' last great season, characterized by twenty-three homers and 106 RBI's. Outstanding game use is evident in the form of ball marks, grain checking, rack streaks and pine tar on the cracked and professionally repaired handle. LOA from PSA/DNA, GU 9.
