    Description

1968 Roberto Clemente All-Star Bat, Game Used. We phrase the lot title as we do because 1968 happened to be the single season between his first appearance in 1960 and the close of his career that Clemente did not get an All-Star nod. Certainly everybody was expecting the streak to continue despite his slow start to the 1968 campaign, chief among them the folks at the factory of his preferred bat manufacturer Adirondack, which created this bat for their star client to use in the exhibition. "Waste not, want not," thought Clemente, who saw no reason to forsake perfectly good lumber just for the "1968 All Stars" stamped into the barrel, and instead inflicted a bona fide pounding to the pale ash during the regular season to follow. The barrel is coated in ball marks, with grain separation from the onslaught. Light pine tar is visible on the handle. Length of thirty-six inches and weight of thirty-eight and a half ounces are correct for the Puerto Rican hero, as is the 129X model number. Graded PSA GU 7. LOA from PSA/DNA.
