1965-68 Mickey Mantle Game Used Bat. Thirty-five inch signature model Hillerich & Bradsby M110 dates to the final years of the Mick's remarkable Hall of Fame career. Bat authenticator John Taube suspects 1965 is the exact year of issue given the heavier weight (thirty-three and a half ounces), as Mantle's later M110 models were typically two are three ounces lighter. This was a season opened with Mantle's home run at an Astrodome exhibition, the first long ball in an indoor stadium, though injuries would somewhat limit the Mick's productivity in the regular season. It's clear that this bat saw tremendous use, however, but it must be noted that some of the ball marks do not appear to have been the result of American League models, suggesting that Mantle was not the last person to swing it. A knob notation, and a red mark over its top, likewise probably date to post-Mantle use. Despite these issues, the bat still presents wonderfully and carries with it the undeniable appeal of a life in the hands of one of baseball's greatest names. LOA from Taube & Malta. Guide Value or Estimate: $4,000 - $6,000.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
