    Description

1962 Roger Maris All-Star Game Used Bat, PSA/DNA GU 8. There was no hotter bat in the early 1960's than this one, issued to the newly-crowned single-season Home Run King and reigning World Champion midway through a season that would produce another taste of October glory. Maris represented the American League's finest each season between 1959 and 1962, the four years that doubled the Midsummer Classic fun by staging two games annually.

Maris would start in both the July 10th D.C. Stadium and July 30th Wrigley Field contests, batting third ahead of teammate Mickey Mantle and Tigers slugger Rocky Colavito respectively. In the earlier event Maris would sacrifice home the sole Junior Circuit run in a three-to-one loss. A double off Juan Marichal in the later game would bring home Bobby Richardson in the top of the ninth inning of an American League nine-to-two romp over the Nationals.

The All-Star bats issued by Adirondack lack the geographic specificity of the Hillerich & Bradsby models, so we cannot be sure which contest was graced with its presence--perhaps both. Certainly the good game use suggests more than a single day's action, though it's entirely possible that the bat served the Yankees' regular season cause as well. The 135RM model measures thirty-five inches (35") in length and thirty-two and a half ounces (32.5 oz.) in weight, with a fine assortment of ball and cleat marks scattered around the barrel. A handle crack ended the service to the star outfielder. This is the first Maris "event" bat we have had the privilege to offer. LOA from PSA/DNA, GU 8.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
