Autographed by the American League team!

1962 Mickey Mantle All-Star Game Used Bat, PSA/DNA Authentic. The nation's capital served as the home grounds for the first of two All-Star Games this year, a locale that afforded the contest the first pitch services of President John F. Kennedy. The 1962 season would prove to be one of the finest in the career of the man to whom this thrilling relic was issued, as Mantle would claim his third of three American League MVP Awards and lead his Yankees to a successful defense of its World Championship throne, Mantle's seventh and final.

The provided signature model Hillerich & Bradsby B220 appears to exhibit light use from the sport's most celebrated exhibition, with green paint streaking to match the RFK Stadium bat rack, but the experts at PSA/DNA stress that the light coating of lacquer that seals about two dozen signatures to its surface makes a definitive attribution of game use impossible. Mantle would walk and strike out in his only two plate appearances.

A study of the autographs adorning the barrel of the thirty-five inch (35"), thirty-two ounce (32 oz.) relic reveals such a stunning assembly of Hall of Fame talent that one marvels that the Junior Circuit was vanquished this day. Mantle and his hard-slugging teammate Roger Maris are joined by the likes of Brooks Robinson, Jim Bunning, Yogi Berra, Al Kaline and Luis Aparacio. The autographs remain as bold as the date of their application, illustrating the wisdom of the aforementioned clear coat application.

While any Mantle bat carries undeniable collecting appeal, those rare few "event" bats bearing physical attribution to Midsummer or Fall Classic vintage are considered the most appealing of them all. Mantle's 1956 All-Star Game bat, dating to his first MVP season, commanded over $430,000 in our New York City Platinum Night event just two years ago.

The bat is consigned to auction by the family of Fred Baxter, who served for decades as trainer and equipment manager to the Washington Senators and Redskins, and received the bat from Mantle personally. His family provides a letter of provenance. LOA from PSA/DNA, Authentic. Letter of provenance from the family of Washington Senators equipment manager Fred Baxter. Full LOA from PSA/DNA (autograph).
