1961 Rocky Colavito Four Home Run Game Used Bat. Though the 1961 home run season is best remembered for the home run exploits of the M&M boys, this superstar slugger for the Detroit Tigers accomplished during that season a feat which neither Maris nor Mantle ever matched in his career, clubbing four home runs in a single day during a doubleheader at Washington's Griffith Stadium. For the collector looking for a genuine lucky charm, one couldn't do much better than this bat with which Rocky rocked his quartet, deriving from the personal collection of noted hobbyist Paul Hill, who was at the park that day and was presented the bat personally by Colavito. His ink inscription on the barrel has survived magnificently, reading, "To Paul, with best wishes, Rocky Colavito." A vintage notation on the barrel end reads, "27 August 4 Home Runs." Use is outstanding, with ball and heavy stitch marks coating the barrel, and bat rack streaks lining the length. The thirty-five inch length is proper for Colavito's preferred signature model Hillerich & Bradsby K55, as is the thirty-two ounce weight. Number "7" in marker on knob. Certainly among the most desirable Colavito bats known in the hobby, this offering was assigned the only grade suitable for perfection: GU10. LOA from Taube & Malta. LOA from PSA/DNA (autograph). LOA from James Spence Authentication (autograph). Guide Value or Estimate: $2,000 - $4,000.
