Description

1961-63 Willie Mays Game Used Bat. A glorious job perk for one young St. Louis Cardinals bat boy, who compiled an impressive collection of gamers from visitors to Sportsman's Park during his early 1960's years of service. Here we present the jewel of that collection, an Adirondack M63 that exhibits phenomenal use from one of the greatest sluggers in Major League history. Heavy ball and stitch marks coat a barrel swollen from many games of punishment. A small amount of dead wood on the back barrel is likewise the result of this hard-hitting use, and does not affect the display in the slightest. The historic hardwood clocks in at thirty-four ounces and thirty-five inches, each proper for Mays' preferred specifications. His number "24" appears in vintage marker on the knob. A photocopied letter of provenance from the bat boy adds a point to the perfect base grades for model specs and use, with a half-point deduction for dead wood resulting in a grand total grade of A8.5. A top-tier artifact from an era that saw Mays average forty-two homers and 122 runs batted in annually. LOA from Dave Bushing.
