    Robinson's first 30+ HR, 100+ RBI campaign!

1959 Frank Robinson Game Used Bat with Robinson Letter, PSA/DNA GU 9.5. A lengthy signed letter of provenance on Cincinnati Reds team letterhead from the original owner of this signature model Hillerich & Bradsby S2 effectively tells the tale:

    "To Whom It May Concern:

I have closely inspected the following item and deem it authentic and used by me. The following bat is my Hillerich & Bradsby, Louisville Slugger 125, signature model. The bat measures 35" in length and weighs 33 ounces. The bat shows much game use including stitch marks and cleat marks. It is my S2 model and is so stamped on the knob. I used the bat during the 1959 season. Cleat marks appear on the barrel as placed there by myself. The grain of the bat is nice and straight, just as I requested. The bat is as fine as any I have ever used.

It is probable this is the bat I used after the 1959 All Star game. I would have used this bat during the July 21st series vs. the Braves. This is the series I had the famous brawl with Eddie Mathews. I also hit a grand slam home run. After the game, I gave the bat to a Milwaukee clubhouse man. This is one of the finest and earliest bats from my career and worth of any first class memorabilia collection."

The experts at PSA/DNA concur with every assertion made by the Hall of Fame slugger, noting that the bat was likely ordered a year earlier, and referencing a repaired handle crack and the "My 1959 Game Bat, Frank Robinson" signed notation on the barrel in 9/10 black sharpie.

The Mathews fight that Robinson references in his letter followed his hard slide into the Hall of Fame Braves third baseman, but this dust-up actually happened in 1960. All other contentions match verifiable data, including Robinson's tale of a grand slam against the Braves (August 13, 1959). LOA from PSA/DNA, GU 9.5. Letter of provenance from Frank Robinson. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication.
