    Description

    With period signature on barrel!

1959-60 Willie Mays Game Used Bat, PSA/DNA GU 9. He was rated number two on The Sporting News' list of "Baseball's 100 Greatest Players of the Twentieth Century," topped only by the iconic Babe Ruth. There are many who would contend that it was Mays deserved top billing--in the end, it comes down to your particular definition of "greatness." That Babe Ruth was the most noteworthy figure in twentieth century baseball is difficult to dispute. And it's true that he was the game's premier pitcher before he became the game's premier slugger. But if baseball's "five tools" is the metric--hitting for average, hitting for power, baserunning, throwing and fielding--Mays' superiority is clear.

All five tools were honed to the sharpness of a scalpel as Mays toted this Hillerich & Bradsby W173 to the plate, averaging .316 over the two-season production span with triple-figure RBI's and more than thirty long balls. The punished grain of the barrel supplies every hallmark of service to a great slugger, with ball marks, stitch impressions and rack streaks, while the handle defies all laws of probability as it presents in uncracked state. Length of thirty-five inches (35") and weight of thirty-three ounces (33 oz.) match factory ordering records. Small mounting hole on knob appears. A faint but entirely legible vintage ink signature on the barrel even more firmly places the lumber in Mays' skilled hands. A truly elite representation from a legend in his prime. LOA from PSA/DNA, GU 9.
