Description

1959 - 60 Stan Musial Game Used & Signed Bat, PSA/DNA GU 9. Late-career gamer recalls one of our favorite Musial stories, a tale of integrity and self-sacrifice that further justifies his famous nickname. After his batting average dropped eighty-two points to .255 in 1959, The Man requested and received a 20% pay cut and promised he'd spend the offseason in training so that he might justify a return to his $100,000 annual salary for 1960.

Musial would progressively raise his batting average over the next three seasons to .330 at age forty-one, proving that force of his will was stronger than Father Time.

This Hillerich & Bradsby M159 finds Musial in the midst of that transformative era, exhibiting heavy game use with ball marks, stitch impressions, cleat divots, red rack streaks and grain checking. Handle is miraculously uncracked. Number "6" appears in vintage marker on knob. Length is thirty-four and a half inches (34.5"), weight thirty and a half ounces (30.5 oz.).

The bat was originally obtained in 1960 by thirty-year Cardinals grounds crew employee Gene Rodgers, and while the PSA/DNA letter references a letter of provenance from Rodgers, that letter has been lost in the thirteen years since the LOA was issued. LOA from PSA/DNA, GU 9. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Full LOA from Beckett Authentication Services.
