    Description

1957 Mickey Mantle Period-Signed Game Issued Bat, PSA/DNA Authentic. It's the earliest Mantle signed bat we've encountered, the only one we've seen bearing this rare signature variation that the Mick would abandon at the turn of the decade. The signature model Hillerich & Bradsby M110 can be attributed to a single season by its specifications, and there's every reason to believe the autograph was likewise applied during that American League MVP and Championship year. Mantle's ballpoint ink manages to overcome the challenges inherent in its application to glossy wood, retaining an impressive 8/10 strength.

The bat is inscribed to legendary New York Times photographer Ernie Sisto, who developed close friendships with many of the pinstriped icons he captured on film during his half-century of employment. This impressive memento from the recently-coronated Triple Crowner speaks to Sisto's popularity in the Yankee clubhouse. The bat exhibits no game use, though we'll choose to count that as a glass half-full, as the price would grow exponentially if the lumber bore the scars of service to the Commerce Comet in his prime. It measures thirty-five and a half inches (35.5") in length and weighs thirty-two ounces (31.9 oz.). Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Letter of provenance from Barbara Sisto Wortman (daughter of Ernie Sisto). Full LOA from PSA/DNA (autograph).
