    Description

Thoroughly "pounded" gamer from the Mick's Triple Crown era!

1955-57 Mickey Mantle Game Used Bat, PSA/DNA GU 9. A butter-fingered laborer in the Louisville production factory of Hillerich & Bradsby was the unwitting parent of a branding flaw that allows expert John Taube at PSA/DNA to pinpoint the birthdate of this important lumber to the most glorious age of Mickey Mantle's Hall of Fame career. Close inspection of the center brand finds a dimple or dent near the ten o'clock position present only on bats manufactured during the three-season range supplied in our lot title, suggesting that the branding plate was slightly damaged in 1955 and then used for a few years before it was retired early in 1957.

Mantle would exhibit a slugging dominance during this span of three seasons unseen in Major League Baseball since the prime of Babe Ruth, claiming back-to-back American League MVP Awards in 1956 and 1957, the former punctuated by both a Triple Crown and World Championship glory. The Mick would have to content himself with only an American League pennant in 1955 and 1957. These three seasons would likewise close out the most celebrated era of Big Apple baseball, as two thirds of the city's representatives would relocate to California for 1958.

As such, few relics we have offered embody that special era as completely as this signature model Hillerich & Bradsby M110, a key that unlocked the hearts of millions of Baby Boomer baseball fans. The slugging power that opened the doors to the Baseball Hall of Fame and the 500 Home Run Clubhouse is evident in the plentitude of ball marks and stitch impressions on the lightly checked barrel, evocative of game use characterized by the experts at PSA/DNA as "outstanding." Rack marks and cleat divots are likewise on display. Number "7" appears in faded vintage marker on the knob. Length and weight are thirty-five inches (35") and thirty-one ounces (31 oz.) respectively. LOA from PSA/DNA, GU 9.
