Description

50/50 chance of use during MVP & World Championship season!

1955-57 Hank Aaron Game Used & Signed Bat, PSA/DNA GU 10. Extraordinary early lumber from the former Home Run King found the youngster from Mobile, Alabama just beginning his long climb to that throne. While the Hillerich & Bradsby signature model R43 appears on the Louisville factory's professional bat ordering records (PBOR) in each of the three years comprising our lot title, the experts at PSA/DNA were able to eliminate the center year of that three-season span due to the thirty-five-inch (35") length of the subject bat--Aaron ordered only thirty-six-inchers in 1956.

Aaron would lead the National League in a major statistic for the first time in 1955 with thirty-seven doubles, but 1957 would prove to be his true "breakout" campaign, topping the Senior Circuit in homers (44), RBI's (132), runs scored (118) and total bases (369) to narrowly edge out Stan "The Man" Musial for the only MVP Award of Hammerin' Hank's storied career. That glorious season would conclude with Fall Classic victory over the mighty New York Yankees, the first (and still only) Major League World Championship delivered to the state of Wisconsin.

Game use is characterized as "outstanding" by the experts at PSA/DNA, who reference ball marks across right, left and back barrel, and batter's box dirt on the uncracked handle, an old school trait common to early Aaron gamers. Weight is thirty-two ounces (32.1 oz.).

An included signed and notarized letter of provenance attests that the author's father had served as a bat boy for the Chicago Cubs in the mid-1950's, acquiring a sizeable collection of bats and balls during those sunny afternoons at Wrigley. This bat was first sold at auction in 2004. Some years later, it was presented to Aaron for signing at a Steiner Sports event, the result being one of the most perfect Aaron autographs we've encountered on a bat. The result is a showpiece with aesthetics to match its monumental historical importance. LOA from PSA/DNA, GU 10. Letter of provenance from son of Cubs bat boy. COA from Steiner Sports. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Full LOA from Beckett Authentication Services.
