1953 Roy Campanella Game Issued Bat. While the presented Hillerich & Bradsby G80 with a block-lettered "Campanella" on the barrel may never have made its Big League debut, the history of the bat is so charming we can forgive this failing. The experts at PSA/DNA have managed to confirm the ordering date as May 19, 1953, where the H&B records note "To Brooklyn for TV show," more specifically the "Happy Felton's Knothole Gang" program which ran on New York TV station WOR Channel 9 in the early and mid-1950's. Hugely popular with Brooklyn youth in its day, the show served a large part in the adoration of the Bums which is reflected to this day in the collecting market. It's likely that Campy did indeed wield this bat on camera as he taught youngsters the fundamentals of the sport. Campanella's number "39" appears in black paint on the barrel end. Length thirty-four inches; weight thirty-two ounces. LOA from PSA/DNA.
