1952 Phil Rizzuto All-Star Game Used Bat from the Rizzuto Estate, PSA/DNA GU 10 & MEARS A10. The diminutive 1950 American League MVP almost never got his shot to play Major League baseball, Brooklyn Dodgers manager Casey Stengel taking one look at Scooter's five-foot six-inch frame and advising him to trade in his glove for a shoeshine box when he showed up at Ebbets Field for a tryout in the late 1930's. But they'd meet again in pinstripes a decade later, the Ol' Perfesser quite pleased to have been proven wrong by the scrappy shortstop, an instrumental figure in seven World Championship seasons for the Yankees.The presented lumber finds Rizzuto at dead center of one of those seasons, a signature model Hillerich & Bradsby B22 issued to the Hall of Famer for the Midsummer Classic at Shibe Park in 1952. Rizzuto would go hitless in two at-bats before a downpour halted the contest after five innings, but the exceptional game use indicates that he, like most All-Stars, continued to use the bat in the second half of the regular season.
Ball marks and stitch impressions coat the left and back barrel, and all sides are speckled with divots from Scooter's spikes. Blue rack streaks run the length of the barrel, and the handle remains rather miraculously uncracked. The dark hickory slab measures thirty-four inches (34") in length and weighs just over thirty-two ounces (32.3 oz.).
This is one of only four Rizzuto bats known to exist, and the only one with direct provenance to the Rizzuto family. It is also the only known Rizzuto All-Star bat. LOA from PSA/DNA, GU 10. LOA from MEARS, A10. Letter of provenance from Rizzuto family.
