1952 Larry Doby All-Star Game Used Bat, PSA/DNA GU 8. His was the most dangerous bat in the American League in 1952, Doby's thirty-two homers and .541 slugging average outpacing all members of the Junior Circuit. So it's no wonder that the Cleveland Indians outfielder garnered his fourth of seven career All-Star nods this year. This first African-American Leaguer was brought in to replace Dom DiMaggio in centerfield in the bottom of the fifth inning, but moments later the skies opened up and turned Shibe Park into a lake, closing out the contest with a three to two National League victory. This remains the only Midsummer Classic in history to have been called on account of rain.We must then attribute the light use evident on this rare and important Hillerich & Bradsby M110 to the second half of Doby's brilliant 1952 regular season campaign, or perhaps to All-Star Game batting practice. At thirty-four and a half inches (34.5") in length and thirty-three and a half ounces (33.5 oz.) in weight, the bat perfectly matches Doby's preferred specifications. A black sharpie signature on the bat's barrel rates 9/10. PSA/DNA's letter notes that the bat was originally sourced from the Doby family in 2008. It's one of just a handful of Doby bats to surface in the hobby, certainly among the tougher post-war Hall of Fame representations.
