Description
World Championship lumber from DiMaggio's penultimate season!
1950 Joe DiMaggio Game Used & Signed Bat, PSA/DNA GU 10. Joe
DiMaggio's 1950 season was a strong late-career campaign from one
of the game's most iconic figures. At age thirty-five, he remained
a cornerstone of the New York Yankees' lineup, batting .301 with 32
home runs, 122 RBIs, and an impressive .927 OPS. His disciplined
approach at the plate yielded 82 walks against only 39 strikeouts,
showcasing his elite command of the strike zone. DiMaggio continued
to provide power and leadership for a Yankees club that captured
the American League pennant and swept the Phillies in the World
Series. His steady presence in center field and championship
experience were invaluable assets on a roster featuring rising
stars like Yogi Berra and Phil Rizzuto. The 1950 season ultimately
delivered DiMaggio his ninth World Series title, further cementing
his legacy as one of the most accomplished and revered players in
baseball history. The subject signature model Hillerich & Bradsby D29L exhibits outstanding game use that suggests long and fruitful service to the Yankee Clipper, the barrel coated in ball marks, stitch impressions and cleat marks. Some blue rack streaks perfectly match the Yankee Stadium color scheme. Moderate pine tar appears on the uncracked handle. Length is thirty-six inches (36"), weight just short of thirty-five ounces (34.7 oz.).
A blue sharpie inscription preceding a 9/10 autograph reads, "Used the knob in my late years," and leading bat expert John Taube confirms in his detailed PSA/DNA letter of authenticity that Joltin' Joe started ordering this variation on his D29 model in the late 1940's, the "L" in D29L referring to the larger knob relative to the earlier deliveries.
It's rather impressive that DiMaggio would recall this late-career model change when he was reunited with his old weapon decades later, and we'd have to assume he signed the bat as such for legendary collector Barry Halper, from whose storied collection the bat first entered the wider hobby. We'll also note that a photograph of this bat appears in Volume One of The DiMaggio Albums, printed by G.P. Putnam's Sons of New York. LOA from PSA/DNA, GU 10.

Auction Type
Signature Internet Extended Bid: These Auctions are presented via catalog and online. Bidding is taken through our website or via phone. There are two phases of bidding during this type of auction: 1) Normal bidding: Bids are taken up until 10 PM CT the night the auction closes. 2) 30 Minute Ending: On a lot-by-lot basis, starting at 10:00 PM CT, any person who has bid on the lot previously may continue to bid on that lot until there are no more bids for 30 minutes. For example, if you bid on a lot during Normal Bidding, you could participate during Extended Bidding for that lot, but not on lots you did not bid on previously. If a bid was placed at 10:15, the new end time for that lot would become 10:45. If no other bids were placed before 10:45, the lot would close. If you are the high bidder on a lot, changing your bid will not extend the bidding during the 30 Minute Ending phase (only a bid from another bidder will extend bidding). If you are the only bidder at 10 PM, you will automatically win the lot at 10:30. Important: After normal bidding ends, you must be signed-on to the Heritage site to see the bidding option on lots where you qualify for extended bidding and you must be on an individual lot page to reflect the accurate time remaining for that particular lot.
