Possible derivation from his first of three National League MVP seasons!
1950-51 Roy Campanella Game Used Bat, PSA/DNA GU 7. The two-season labeling period of the provided Hillerich & Bradsby G80 turns the prospect of use during Campy's first of three National League MVP seasons into a coin flip, though each potential vintage is a delight. In 1950, the sturdy Brooklyn Dodgers backstop drilled thirty-one home runs to join Duke Snider and Gil Hodges as the Bums' primary long ball threats, then improved on that tally in 1951 while adding more than forty points to his batting average for a scorching .325. Those advancements were not missed by the sportswriters of the National League cities, who crowned Campy the National League MVP in a narrow victory over another three-time honoree, Stan "The Man" Musial. We can see the evidence of Campanella's fine work in the punished grain of the presented relic, exhibiting a vast array of ball marks and light grain checking from that most special time in Big Apple baseball. Handle is lightly cracked. A few barrel abrasions have been attributed to post-Campy storage. Length of thirty-five and a half inches (35.5") and weight of thirty-five ounces (35 oz.) are correct for the Hall of Fame catcher's factory ordering records.
Like fellow Hall of Fame icons Lou Gehrig and Roberto Clemente, tragic misfortune brought a premature end to Campanella's storied career, but those ten years of Major League service rate with the finest decades ever delivered in a Major League uniform. That all-too-brief career has left the collecting hobby woefully underpopulated with quality game used relics, so we're pleased to be able to present a particularly attractive exception to that rule here. LOA from PSA/DNA, GU 7.
