1949 Ralph Kiner All-Star Game Used Bat, PSA/DNA GU 8. Bats issued for the Midsummer and Fall Classic carry a lot of weight with the educated hobbyist, but the presented specimen is something truly special. Perhaps most notably, the Hillerich & Bradsby signature model G69L was crafted for use at the 1949 All-Star Game, one of the most historic editions due to the first appearance of African-American players in the dugouts. In fact, the great Jackie Robinson was standing at second base in the bottom of the sixth inning when Kiner used this bat to deposit a two-out pitch into the bleachers in left to pull within a run of the American League.

Kiner's titanic blast was just one of many launched that 1949 season, widely considered the Pirates slugger's finest. His fifty-four homers were a career best, and just two behind Hack Wilson's National League record. The heavy use of the presented bat ensures that the party didn't end the day of the Classic, as there is far more than a single game's action apparent. Length of thirty-five inches and weight of thirty-two ounces match the Professional Bat Ordering Record entry for July 8, 1949, four days prior to the All-Star Game. Some water staining to the barrel accounts for the only points lost in the PSA/DNA examination, resulting in a final grade of GU 8. The bat otherwise earns top marks across the board, and bears a 9/10 sharpie signature from Kiner at mid-barrel. Signed letter of provenance from Kiner himself is included. LOA from PSA/DNA, GU 8. Letter of provenance from Ralph Kiner. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA (autograph). Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication (autograph).

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
