    Description

One of two known gamers from Robinson's National League MVP season!

1949 Jackie Robinson Game Used Bat, PSA/DNA GU 9. The Hillerich & Bradsby center brand of this historic hardwood is a two-season format, used only in 1948 and 1949, and Jackie Robinson ordered signature model S100's only in the latter, assuring that the heavy game use that coats its surface was inflicted during his spectacular National League Most Valuable Player campaign. While any relic linked to this most important career in the history of our national pastime borders upon the sacred, there is no question that those bearing a vintage consistent with that season he led the Senior Circuit in both average (.342) and stolen bases (37) rise to the top of that population.

This is one of just two Robinson bats from his 1949 MVP season in the PSA/DNA database, placing it firmly in the top three of all Robinson bats on Earth, along with the only known 1947 rookie bat which Heritage sold in August 2016 for $478,000. We believe this to be the most heavily-used of the three, the grain of the back barrel swollen from the punishment of a season characterized by 203 hits and 124 runs batted in. Cleat marks speckle the surface of the ash relic, and green rack streaks remain visible. A handle crack has been professionally repaired.

Length of thirty-four and a half inches (34.5") and weight of thirty-three ounces (33 oz.) perfectly match orders placed on January 21, March 10 and March 31, assuring that the bat was available to Robinson from Opening Day forward. The PSA/DNA letter of authenticity states that the bat was originally sold with a letter from Brooklyn Dodgers bat boy Nick Tirone, but sadly that letter has been lost in the twenty-five years since it was written. LOA from PSA/DNA, GU 9.
