    Description

Possibly used to launch his final long ball!

1946-47 Mel Ott Game Used Bat, PSA/DNA GU 8.5. Though Leo Durocher's famous quip--"Nice guys finish last"--is most commonly attributed to a conversation regarding the universally beloved Ott's struggles as the Giants manager in the final seasons of his Big League career, few players in baseball history were as consistently successful as Mel Ott during his playing prime. On the short list of his most impressive accomplishments, Ott finished first in team rankings for home runs eighteen consecutive seasons (1928-45), the only man in baseball history to build a streak of that length in any of the Triple Crown categories. The youngest player to reach 100 home runs, and the first National Leaguer to reach 500, Ott wore the Senior Circuit career home run crown for three decades before fellow Giant Willie Mays claimed the title.

The offered signature model Hillerich & Bradsby O23 dates to the final two seasons of Ott's career, a period that saw him hit the last of his career 511 home runs. The barrel provides evidence of his thunderous power, raising the grain through the punishment of countless impacts. Red rack streaks adorn the front barrel, and a crack at the upper handle has been professionally repaired.

At a length of thirty-five inches (35") and a weight of thirty-four ounces (34.1 oz.), the representation maintains perfect fidelity to Ott's preferences as documented in H&B's factory ordering records. LOA from PSA/DNA, GU 8.5.
