1942-43 Stan Musial Game Used Rookie-Era Bat, PSA/DNA GU 8.5. It was one of the great thrills of our service to the hobby community as the world's largest collectibles auctioneer to earn the privilege to present The Stan Musial Collection to the world, a spectacular array of personally owned artifacts from one of the greatest players in the history of the sport. But as vast and varied as The Man's personal collection may have been, it lacked any lumber that could hold a candle to this stunning early-career specimen, used during the first ten percent of a Hall of Fame career, and with high-probability during the first of Musial's three National League MVP campaigns.

Excellent game use certainly seems appropriate for a 1943 season that saw the young Cardinal lead the Senior Circuit in batting average (.357), hits (220), doubles (48), triples (20) and, of course, total bases (347). Ball marks, rack streaks, cleat divots and stitch impressions coat the barrel of the signature model Hillerich & Bradsby, yet the handle is uncracked, with just a small knob chip the most serious wound.

Length is thirty-five inches (35"), weight thirty-two ounces (32.2 oz.). The last example of this early model--graded a half-point lower--commanded over $23,000 in auction earlier this year. LOA from PSA/DNA, GU 8.5.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
