1941-42 Joe DiMaggio Game Used Bat, PSA/DNA GU 8. Signature model Hillerich & Bradsby dates to the apex of the Yankee Clipper's brilliance, as a factory-stamped "35 1/2" in the knob attests. This notation, designating the weight in ounces, narrows the possible date of production to a two-season span that featured DiMaggio's historic fifty-six game hitting streak, an American League MVP Award, two pennants and one World Championship.

While any relic blessed by the touch of Joltin' Joe carries enormous collecting appeal, there is no question that those few that have emerged from the early 1940's remain the most coveted. Following Lou Gehrig's heartbreaking abdication of field generalship in 1939, it was DiMaggio who carried the weight of Yankee fandom's enormous expectation upon his shoulders, maintaining the steady course that numbers Three and Four had blazed before him.

The thirty-six inches (36") of well-used ash exhibits a scattering of ball marks and stitch impressions that are attributable to Major League action, as a study of factory ordering records express that, while Joltin' Joe did order this model for military action in 1943, those WWII shipments lacked the weight stamping on the knob. A crack at upper handle has been expertly repaired, and small drilled holes at either end leave us wondering what particular significance this specimen may have had to compel an early owner to place it in a mounted display.

This is just the second early 1940's DiMaggio representation that Heritage has had the privilege to present, and the higher-graded example of the pair. LOA from PSA/DNA, GU 8.
