Description

1941-42 Charlie Gehringer Game Used Bat. Excellent use and provenance join forces to create one of the most desirable Gehringer bats ever to reach the hobby's auction block. "The Mechanical Man" was putting the final touches on his career totals of 2,839 hits and 574 doubles when he utilized this signature model Hillerich & Bradsby at the end of his nineteen-season Hall of Fame career. Several ball marks are visible on the right and back barrel, as are green bat rack streaks and a touch of black paint on the handle. The bat is uncracked. Barely visible upon the barrel are the remnants of eleven signatures, with only the Gehringer identifiable to the naked eye, providing ironclad assurance of use by this Tigers legend. The length and weight of thirty-six inches and ounces respectively is proper for Gehringer's ordering records, mimicking Earl Averill's model of June 10, 1938. One of just a handful of Gehringer gamers known to exist, this is the first to be presented at auction in a number of years. Graded GU 8. LOA from PSA/DNA.
