One of the finest examples in the hobby!

1940's Babe Ruth Signed Bat, Beckett Auto 9. While our national pastime's most noteworthy figure laid pen to the horsehide of tens if not hundreds of thousands of baseballs during his lifetime, it is a particularly rare and exciting occurrence when one encounters a bat bearing the mark of the Babe. Autographing bats just wasn't something that was typically done back in the days before permanent markers were in vogue, so those collecting pre-war signed wood are a brave and ambitious lot. They'll have cause to celebrate now, however, as we present the finest example we have yet encountered, a nearly pristine signature model Hillerich & Bradsby "40 B.R." retail bat (35") bearing a black fountain pen ink inscription assessed at a 9/10 level by the notoriously strict graders of Beckett.

As is typical for the finest of the Bambino's signed lumber, a small rectangular patch on the barrel (3.5x2") was sanded down to provide a more hospitable landing pad for his black fountain pen ink, and the wisdom of that handiwork is borne out by the exceptional result. The bat itself is just as beautiful, the lustrous wood taking on the antique sheen of fine furniture, exhibiting only light handling and storage wear. Unquestionably one of the finest examples in the hobby. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Full LOA from Beckett, Auto 9.
