1939-43 Joe DiMaggio Game Issued Bat. Identical in style to the bat used during DiMaggio's famed 1941 streak that sold in 2004 for just over $300,000, the offered example will not cause the winning bidder to open his pocketbook quite so wide. The signature model Hillerich & Bradsby was unquestionably created for use by the Yankee Clipper, but never made it into his capable hands, remaining unblemished by the impact of horsehide. We must also note that, for reasons unknown, the top seven-eighths of an inch have been trimmed from the barrel end, shedding about an ounce of weight from the proper thirty-five in the process. There is still much to love, however, particularly the chance for mere collecting mortals to own true DiMaggio lumber. Graded GU4. LOA from Taube & Malta.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
