1938 Jimmie Foxx Game Used Bat, PSA/DNA GU 9--MVP Season!It required Hank Greenberg's outrageous fifty-eight home run season deny Jimmie Foxx the American League Triple Crown in 1938, an absolutely monumental campaign for the Boston Red Sox slugger that would have claimed the sport's most heralded offensive distinction in just about any other year. Foxx plated 175 runs on the strength of fifty homers and a scorching .349 average in '38, supplying him a landslide victory in MVP balloting, the third and final time he'd claim that hardware.
Leading bat expert John Taube assesses the game use evident on the surface of this signature model Hillerich & Bradsby ("His 4-8-38" in ordering records) as "outstanding," leaving little doubt that some portion of the fifty long balls launched during that season derived from its punished barrel. Taube references ball and cleat marks as witnesses to the brilliance, and the handle remains miraculously uncracked. Length is thirty-five inches (35"), weight just a shade under thirty-five ounces (34.7 oz.), each a perfect match to factory ordering records.
Taube has been able to assign this bat to a single order placed on April 8, 1938, the very start of one of the greatest offensive seasons ever supplied to Major League Baseball.
