    Description

1938-40 Gabby Hartnett Game Used Bat, PSA/DNA GU 8.5. Until Johnny Bench helped bring the championship of professional baseball back to its Cincinnati birthplace, it was this man who was all but universally considered the greatest catcher in the history of the National League. The six-time All-Star was the first Major League catcher to slug twenty home runs in a season, and he commonly led the Senior Circuit in gunning down enemy base thieves.

But the long-time Cubs backstop is best remembered in baseball history for his heroic "Homer in the Gloamin'," a walk-off blast against the Pittsburgh Pirates in the closing breaths of both the game's daylight and the 1938 season to leap-frog the Bucs to a half-game lead in the pennant race. The presented lumber's three-season production range begins with that glorious National League Championship vintage and continues on through Hartnett's last of nineteen seasons at Wrigley.

The signature model Hillerich & Bradsby C44 is uncracked and exhibits outstanding game use, with ball marks, stitch impressions, cleat marks, and scoring on the left barrel. Length is thirty-five inches (35"), weight thirty-three ounces (33 oz.). The experts at PSA/DNA advise that this is one of only four Hartnett bats they have ever authenticated, and the highest graded example. LOA from PSA/DNA, GU 8.5.
