One of just six bats in this format ever shipped to The Kid!

1938-39 Ted Williams Game Used Rookie Bat, PSA/DNA GU 8.5.

UPDATE: MEARS LOA reports grade of A9, not A8 as posted in catalog.

Fellow Boston Red Sox Hall of Famer Carl Yastrzemski once noted, "They can talk about Babe Ruth and Ty Cobb and Rogers Hornsby and Lou Gehrig and Joe DiMaggio and Stan Musial and all the rest, but I'm sure not one of them could hold cards and spades to Williams in his sheer knowledge of hitting. He studied hitting the way a broker studies the stock market and could spot at a glance mistakes that others couldn't see in a week." The Splendid Splinter's childhood wish that he would one day be called the greatest hitter that ever lived did indeed come to fruition, a fact which makes any lumber once blessed by his world class hands a genuine treasure of our National Pastime.

But the presented example distinguishes itself even within that elite demographic as one of the very first signature model Hillerich & Bradsby models ever delivered to the fledgling superstar. Expert John Taube directs our attention to the diminutive knob of this Chick Cuccinello model that matches only three separate orders of two bats each delivered from Louisville to the teenaged slugger during the 1938 season.

We expand our potential dating range to include Williams' last in the minors and first in the Majors, as the bat was sourced from a 1939 Cleveland Indians bat boy who was getting one of the first looks at a man who would terrorize American League pitching for two decades to come. Expert John Taube characterizes game use as "tremendous," referencing ball marks, cleat divots, red and green rack streaks, grain checking and a handle crack secured with vintage tape.

Length of thirty-five inches (35") and weight of nearly thirty-four ounces (34 oz.) perfectly match factory ordering records. LOA from PSA/DNA, GU 8.5. LOA from MEARS, A9.
