Description

1933-34 Paul Waner Game Used Sidewritten Bat. Arguably the finest Big Poison bat on the market, though admittedly it's not much of a horse race. Just five examples have surfaced on the public auction block in the past dozen years, and this offering will make it an even half dozen. The 1934 season, one of two in which this bat may have seen action, saw the Pirates outfielder claim his second of three career National League batting titles, and the excellent use (ball marks, cleat marks, cracked and repaired handle) evident upon this signature model Hillerich & Bradsby suggests loads of good work in the batter's box. Perhaps most exciting, however, are the remnants of a mailing label on the right barrel and the vault markings of "W58" stamped into the knob and barrel end, perfectly correlating with Paul Waner as the 58th player with the last initial "W" with an assigned bat model. So while the factory sidewriting is no longer visible, there is no question but that this is a genuine Paul Waner sidewritten bat. The splendid use and most coveted form of provenance fuel the GU 8.5 grade from PSA/DNA and serve as a challenge to competing bidders intent upon securing only the finest for their private holdings. LOA from PSA/DNA, GU 8.5.
