Description

1932 Babe Ruth Lathe Bat, PSA/DNA Authentic. The genetic origin of the lumber used by the iconic Sultan of Swat during his last World Championship season (and likely beyond) traces back to this important slab of wood. For the uninitiated, lathe bats served as templates for production of gamers, this particular example identical in every caliper reading to those wielded by the greatest slugger of them all but for the spools at either end that allowed the bat to spin in the duplication machine.

Lathe bats, of course, lack any manufacturer's stamping as they were never intended for public viewing, but the attribution to Ruth appears in the handwritten Hillerich & Bradsby factory text reading, "Babe Ruth 4-18-32, New York Yankees." Lighter handwriting on the handle end of the barrel provides details of length and weight.

The bat measures just a hair short of thirty-five inches (34.75") and tips the scales at a Ruthian thirty-seven and a half ounces (37.6 oz.). A truly important relic for the advanced Ruth collector. LOA from PSA/DNA, Authentic.
