1932 Babe Ruth Game Used Bat. Rare and historic swatter is one of just sixteen specially ordered by the Sultan during the World Championship 1932 season, an experiment conducted by the aging long ball artist to see if white hickory might serve to reclaim some slugging distance surrendered through years of hard knocks and hard living. This is, in fact, the only such bat we've encountered from that special order, and it is worthy of note that 9-17-32 Hillerich & Bradsby shipping records document the delivery of a pair just in advance of that season's World Series, one made famous for Ruth's apocryphal "Called Shot." While we could make no definitive claim that this is one of those two bats, mathematical probability would assume a 12.5% chance that it is, and the logic that a late-season bat would have a better chance of survival than one dating from earlier in the year would increase that figure substantially. The length and weight of thirty-four and three quarter inches and thirty-six ounces indicate Ruth's well-established trending toward smaller bats in his later years, and perfectly match factory records of the order. Use is characterized as "Medium" by expert Dave Bushing, who notes that the absence of ball or stitch marks is primarily due to the hard nature of the hickory that keeps its secrets more effectively than the more common ash variety.
The bulletproof provenance that affixes this relic to the historic 1932 World Championship season, Ruth's last, provides the offered lot with endless appeal, and one can even dare to dream that this could potentially be the bat that launched the Babe's most famous homer of all. The documentation, use and historic relevance have served to label the bat with a grade of A8.5, elevating the piece to the heights of the bat collecting hobby. LOA from Dave Bushing.
