    A dozen Murderer's Row representations

1927 New York Yankees Game Used Bats Lot of Twelve, Each PSA-Graded. With the clarity of hindsight, the lopsided dominance of this most fabled edition of New York Yankees rosters seems as if it should have been apparent from the very start, but public sentiment (or at least that of leading oddsmakers and sportswriters) leaned south to Philadelphia on Opening Day of 1927. To be fair, Connie Mack's newest creation looked unbeatable on paper, the signing of three veteran legends-Ty Cobb, Eddie Collins and Zack Wheat-bolstering a roster already heavy with future Cooperstown talent. But the Yanks would set a blistering pace from the starting gun, winning their first six games to lead the American League from wire to wire, finishing a stunning nineteen games ahead of Connie Mack's second place club at the close of the regular season.
Today, "The Twenty-Seven Yankees" is a term that has effectively become synonymous with athletic greatness, and the standard by which team baseball achievement is measured. Membership within that most storied pinstriped vintage roster assures a certain measure of immortality even for those players absent from Cooperstown, though clearly the team had more than its share of enshrinees. A dozen members of that ballclub are commemorated here in game used lumber, providing the foundation for a challenging yet enormously rewarding collecting theme that would be nearly impossible to complete without some of the exceedingly rare entries on offer.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
