Guaranteed single-season home run championship attribution!
1926-28 Hack Wilson Game Used Bat, PSA/DNA GU 9.Perhaps the most unusual-looking player enshrined at Cooperstown, Wilson carried 195 pounds on his five-foot six frame, balanced on short legs and tiny size six feet. Today doctors recognize these traits as hallmarks of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, indicating that Wilson's struggles with the bottle began even before his own birth. His sad decline would likewise be precipitated by the bottle, but as Wilson gripped the presented signature model Hillerich & Bradsby there was no more dangerous batter in the game. During each of the three possible seasons of this bat's active duty, Wilson led the National League in round-trippers, beginning a span of five consecutive seasons with triple-digit run production that would conclude with 191 RBI's in 1930 that remains the Major League record to this day.
The signature model Hillerich & Bradsby is identified in factory ordering records as "His 1-30-26," perfectly matching listed specs at just under thirty-six inches (35.75") in length and today tipping the scales at just over thirty-five ounces (35.3 oz.). The experts at PSA/DNA characterize game use as "heavy," noting multiple ball marks and slight dead wood above the facsimile signature, correct for a label-up, right-handed power hitter. Handle is remarkably uncracked, considering the long term of productive service evident in the battered surface of the ash. Light coating of pine tar appears at handle and center brand.
Though Wilson's career consisted of twelve Major League seasons, his prime was effectively confined to a five-season span at its center, the genesis of this important offering. All the bold type of National League dominance appears within that half-decade, and collectors properly prize Wilson relics bearing that important vintage. LOA from PSA/DNA, GU 9.
