    Ordered on June 5, 1925...

1925 Babe Ruth Game Used Bat, PSA/DNA GU 8.5.
It was the most controversial season of the Bambino's celebrated career, one of only two between 1918 and 1931 in which the sport's premier long ball artist did not lead the American League in that statistic. A mysterious ailment, known to baseball history as "The Bellyache Heard 'round the World," struck the Babe in the closing days of spring training and postponed his 1925 debut until June 1st while unleashing a torrent of wild speculation as to the nature of the malady. Theories ran the gamut from overeating to sexually transmitted disease, though most historians today believe that alcohol addiction was the root cause.

The 1925 season would see the beginning of Lou Gehrig's fabled streak, but the addition of the hard-slugging first baseman could not make up for the loss of Ruth, and the Yankees would end the season under .500, their last losing season until 1965, though their greatest years lay just ahead. Despite just ninety-eight games of activity, Ruth would still finish second in American League home runs with twenty-five.

The offered signature model Hillerich & Bradsby derives from that most unusual season of Ruth and the Yankees' partnership, its forty-one ounce (41.3 oz.) weight and caliper measurements allowing leading bat expert John Taube to assign its derivation to a single order dating June 5, 1925, just days after Ruth's return to active duty. The bat is uncracked and displays moderate use, with checking on left and back barrel professionally repaired, and a few scattered ball marks and cleat impressions. Length is thirty-six inches (36"). LOA from PSA/DNA, GU 8.5.
