Description

1925-29 Charlie Gehringer Game Used Bat, PSA/DNA GU 8. "You wind him up Opening Day and forget him," once quipped teammate Doc Cramer, explaining how the Tigers' Hall of Fame second baseman earned the nickname "The Mechanical Man." Gehringer posted seven seasons with 200+ hits and led all American League second basemen in fielding percentage half a dozen times, all while twice completing 500+ consecutive game streaks. This history of reliability and brilliance would open the gates of Cooperstown for Gehringer in 1949.

Here we find just the third Gehringer game used bat that Heritage has had the privilege to present to the collecting community, and by far the earliest. The hickory "Spalding" ball and diamond model 200, bearing a bold block-lettered "Gehringer" on the barrel, which exhibits excellent game use with ball marks and scoring on right and back barrel. The PSA/DNA letter reminds us that retail model Spalding bats were branded "Autograph" above the baseball logo center brand, while professional models bore the "Hand Turned" text we see here.

Length of thirty-four inches (34") and weight of thirty-six ounces and change (36.3 oz.) are both consistent with Gehringer's ordering records. LOA from PSA/DNA, GU 8.
