1925-28 Ty Cobb Professional Model Bat. While he did little to establish long-term friendships with his actions on the field of play, Tyrus Cobb was undoubtedly considered to be the best player of his time. His prowess at home plate was widely known and his wide-handed grip allowed for quick distribution of the pitched orb to whatever part of the field he so chose. Dating from 1925-28, we present this Ty Cobb professional model bat manufactured by Hillerich & Bradsby. Louisville Slugger's first professional endorser has his name scrawled into the barrel. Use is heavy with several deep ball and stitch marks and a 10" crack, which has been repaired, in the handle. Spiral taping previously covered the handle, which was presumably part of an undertaking to repair the handle crack. It seems that while this is a Cobb pro model, it does not match the specifications of bats he used during the period. According to bat ordering records, Cobb used sticks that weighed between 35 and 42 ounces -- this one weighs 28.6 ounces. The Detroit Tigers most likely ordered this index bat and many like for use by other members of the team during spring training and batting practice. The accompanying authentication indicates that no specific player use can be attributed to this bat. Still, it remains a desirable vintage piece appropriate for any advanced lumber enthusiast. Has been given the final grade of A4 from MEARS.
