1923-26 Babe Ruth Pro Stock Bat, Game Used & Sidewritten, PSA/DNA Authentic. It's a bat that will quicken the pulse upon first sight, visually identical to the lumber with which the great Bambino carved his immortality, though the small variations in dimension disqualify it from Ruth's factory ordering records. Instead, at just short of thirty-six inches (35.75") and thirty-seven ounces (36.7 oz.), it's clear that this is a "pro stock" bat simply bearing the factory's most popular player endorsement.Leading expert John Taube identifies faded factory sidewriting on the barrel as reading, "St. Marys Haw_ii 5-6-26," suggesting that the bat saw action in that island paradise several years before the Babe himself would appear en route to the famous 1934 Tour of Japan. Use is heavy, with a handle crack and checking on the barrel tacked down with vintage nails. Ball marks and cleat divots likewise appear. "ORW" is formed with small, shallow holes at the upper handle, some sort of identifier for its original owner, no doubt.
Despite exclusion from Ruth's own deadly arsenal, the bat carries significant collectible intrigue for its aesthetics and its early vintage. It will ably fill the slot in your game used bat collection until the funds for a genuine Ruth gamer materialize. LOA from PSA/DNA, Authentic.
