1923-25 Rogers Hornsby "Monogram" Game Used Bat, PSA/DNA GU 6. It's the rarest of all Hornsby gamers, a format that long baffled collectors until a photograph surfaced of the confident looking slugger posing in the Cardinals dugout with this precise style at the ready. Still lost beneath the sands of baseball history is the reason for the Louisville bat factory's brief flirtation with monogrammed lumber, but other players' models have surfaced with limited regularity over the years, all confined to the first half of the 1920's. Expert John Taube has assigned a three-year range of production for this special relic, a period populated by three National League batting titles (twice exceeding the fabled .400 mark), an MVP Award and a Triple Crown. The format is the desirable "His Hornsby" model, with the unique knob style that came to bear the Hall of Fame slugger's name and the thirty-four inch length and thirty-three ounce weight that match his factory ordering records. Ideal in every other regard, the bat loses points only to the common practice of post-player "sandlot" use, which has left the degree attributable to Hornsby himself in question. The rarity and ideal vintage are more than enough to overcome this shortcoming, however. A remarkable, and possibly unique, article for the advanced bat collector. LOA from PSA/DNA, GU 6.
