1923-24 Babe Ruth Game Used Bat, PSA/DNA GU 8. While the sixty-home run season of 1927 is widely considered to be the finest vintage of all Ruth memorabilia, a strong argument could be made for 1923 instead, a year that saw the Babe claim his sole MVP Award and christen the infant Yankee Stadium with its first home run and, six months later, the franchise's first World Championship.

Presented is a wrist-straining forty ounce (40 oz.) leviathan swung by the sport's greatest figure either that season or the one immediately following, each punctuated by American League-leading tallies for both home runs and strikeouts, embodying the Ruth doctrine of "Swing big, hit big, miss big." The thirty-six inch (36") signature model Hillerich & Bradsby bears the scars of dozens of big hits, the grain of the barrel swollen from impact and pock-marked by the soles of Ruth's spikes. Water damage on the top of the barrel has been professionally repaired so skillfully that only the most eagle-eyed will notice. Handle is uncracked.

Provenance is supplied in the form of a notarized letter from the grandson of American League umpire Joseph Paparella, who took advantage of his proximity to legends to build an early personal memorabilia collection.

Ruth's production over this potential two-season span averages to figures that would win most Triple Crowns: .385 batting average, forty-four home runs and 127 runs batted in. In short, this is a relic that finds the master in his prime, as he transformed both the game and the fortunes of the team he would come to symbolize. It is, quite simply, one of the most desirable Ruth bats ever offered. LOA from PSA/DNA, GU 8. Notarized letter from grandson of A.L. umpire Joseph Paparella.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
