    Description

1921-31 Rogers Hornsby Game Used Bat. Outstanding provenance tracks this phenomenal signature model Hillerich & Bradsby from the hands of the Hall of Fame second sacker to the offices of Heritage Galleries. A notarized letter from Jack Ferrell, the nephew of Cooperstown's own Rick Ferrell, explains that it was given to Jack's mother by Rogers himself as he joined a group of players, including Rick and Wes Ferrell, at the Ferrell's North Carolina farm to make the trip down to Florida for Spring Training in 1929. Duly impressed with the man who had earned the National League batting title the season before with a .387 average, the young Mrs. Ferrell boldly asked for and received this bat from Hornsby's steamer trunk packed with his game used equipment. We must note that the knob is stamped with the length of "35"," which does typically indicate a store model bat, but SCDA's close examination finds high-quality wood, deep and correct manufacturer's stampings and signs of moderate use to prove that this is not consistent with store model variety bats otherwise. Length and weight are also proper for known Hornsby lumber, with measurements of thirty-five inches and thirty-seven and a half ounces respectively. This leads SCDA to proclaim the bat "Authentic" with respect to characteristics and game use. Rajah's bats are seldom found in the collecting hobby, and the incredible dual-Hall of Fame history sets this representation high among the few known examples. LOA from Dan Knoll & Dave Bushing/ SCD Authentic.
