Description

Early 1950's Chief Bender Single Signed Baseball.
UPDATE: This ball now comes with a full LOA from PSA/DNA

Born in Crow Wing County, Minnesota to a German father and part-Chippewa mother, young Charles Bender rose up through the famous Carlisle Indian School to become one of the top aces of the Dead Ball Era. During the era of Connie Mack's fabled $100,000 Infield, Bender was a masterful craftsman at its center, recording four sub-2.00 ERA seasons and three World Championships. Ty Cobb called him the most intelligent pitcher he ever faced.

Yet despite this high praise, Bender enjoyed only a year of Hall of Fame brotherhood before his passing in 1954 at age seventy, a factor that certainly plays heavily into the rarity of single signed baseballs traded in the hobby today. This is the finest we've encountered from that tiny supply, an 8/10 black fountain pen beauty applied to the side panel of an OAL (Harridge) ball. It's likely that his induction ceremony was the genesis. Ball is age-toned with a few scattered spots, but nothing that minimizes the fine display value. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
