Description

Circa 1958 Tris Speaker Single Signed Baseball. Had Ty Cobb never picked up a baseball bat, it would be Speaker whose name would be synonymous with batting brilliance during the fabled Dead Ball Era. His career total of 792 doubles figures to reign for eternity, outpacing even Barry Bonds by nearly two hundred. Offered here is one of the finest singles we've thus far encountered from the Grey Eagle, inscribed to our consignor shortly before Speaker's 1958 passing. The blue ballpoint ink rates a flawless 10/10 on the sweet spot of an "Energized League Ball," and reads, "To Bobby Roper, Best Wishes, Tris Speaker." The tiniest brown speckles upon the inscription are all that derails a definitive NRMT-MT characterization of the ball itself as well. A gorgeous specimen for the collector who demands the best. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
