Circa 1939 New York Yankees Legends & More Signed Baseball--Presents as Lou Gehrig Single.
While official guides list the starting date as 1940, this particular format of OAL (Harridge) ball has been established to have existed as early as July of 1939, the month that the noble Iron Horse gave his tearful farewell speech at Yankee Stadium. His side panel inscription, "To Bob, With Kindest Personal Regards, Lou Gehrig," must therefore be one of his last autographs on horsehide, as the faltering legend would soon fade from public view en route to his dreadful demise. Fellow pinstriped Hall of Famers Joe DiMaggio and Charles "Red" Ruffing sign with him, as well as three others. Gehrig rates 7/10, while the rest are even bolder. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Full LOA from SGC Authentic.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
