Description

Circa 1934 Babe Ruth & Dean Brothers Signed Baseball. Depression-era "Official League Ball" joins the game's premier slugger and its famed Cardinals fraternal pitching duo in one neat package. Ruth, of course, claims the sweet spot, his blue ink a very conservative 8/10. The panel below finds Dizzy and Paul Dean stacked beneath former St. Louis Brown Alex Metzler, all three presenting in 9+/10 ink. A 10/10 Pepper Martin and 6/10 Monte Pearson autograph round out the cast of characters. Our consignor believes the ball to have derived from some manner of baseball event in Fresno, California, though a St. Louis-based event appears perhaps more likely. The ball is accompanied by a vintage 8x10" photo of Ruth in the uniform of some sort of lodge baseball team called the "Sciots." It does appear to be Pepper Martin in the first row directly in front of the Babe, so this may offer some insight into the baseball's history. But regardless of the background, any vintage baseball autograph collector couldn't help but be impressed by the quality of this signed sphere, both in aesthetics and in its cast of characters. LOA from PSA/DNA. LOA from James Spence Authentication.
